BRIDGE PROJECT - PROJECT.1 you can see around you
July 11 - August 1, 2008
WATERGATE gallery, SEOUL |
PRESS RELEASE
|
In order to facilitate improved communication in the art world at least, Watergate Gallery will be initiating ‘Bridge Project’ to become a bridge for artists and audiences, art professionals and non-professions, contemporary and modern art, domestic and international art. The Bridge Project will be held twice a year to present the work of young emerging artists with great potential. Our first objective is to introduce them to world wide viewers and expose them to the international art.
The first project of ‘Bridge Project’ is called ‘you can see around you’ and 6 young artists will display their latest works (18 pieces). The artists were born after 1970’s, and are familiar with overflowing information such as internet, media, and other images in the entertainment. What do these young artists see and express while they are living in such fast changing contemporary society? These 6 artists in ‘you can see around you’ project try to reconstruct their thoughts and feelings, which are based on their experience from personal environment or incident of personal life and not based on heavy subjects such as “politics, culture, society, religion, philosophy”, through “painting”.
Painting is still an authentic creative method but for these artists it is one method to communicate and connect the artist and the world around. The artists fill the canvas with a view created by their imagination and sensibility. The artists have looked around and extended the artistic view again and have tried to connect “painting” and “everyday life” as one so can see the idealistic reality.
Lastly we wish that ‘Bridge Project’ could continuously introduce undiscovered brilliant young artists’ new works to broader viewers by beginning with the first exhibition, ‘you can see around you’.
Bridge Project의 첫 번째 프로젝트는 ‘you can see around you’ (당신의 주변을 바라보아요)를 주제로 가능성 있는 젊은 작가 6인의 18작품을 선보인다.
